Minecraft: Xbox One Edition players can still upgrade to Bedrock for free
Minecraft for the Xbox One can be upgraded to Bedrock Edition (also known as Bedrock Platform, Bedrock Codebase, or Bedrock Engine) for free.
In September 2017, the Better Together update for Minecraft was released on Xbox One, iOS, Android, Windows 10 and Gear VR (since then the version has also reached the Nintendo Switch). This update was essentially a new version of the game, a version of Bedrock that allowed Minecraft players to enjoy the multiplayer game on all of these platforms. If you own a copy of Minecraft: Xbox One Edition, now you can upgrade it to Bedrock absolutely free!
The update was also available at the time of launch, but this offer will not last forever – Minecraft: Xbox One Edition players can upgrade the game for free until November 30, 2019. To receive a free update, you must log in to your Xbox profile on the console. If you have a physical copy of Minecraft: Xbox One Edition, and you have played five hours in the past twelve months or bought a DLC at any time, then you are entitled to a free upgrade to Bedrock.
If you have not played for five hours in the past 12 months and have not bought any DLC, then you can fulfill any of the conditions until November 30, 2019. You will receive a 5 × 5 code through the Xbox Messaging, which allows you to purchase a version of Minecraft Bedrock Edition. This may take several weeks for the Xbox team to process redemption requests.
Minecraft Bedrock Edition will allow you to play multiplayer games on different platforms with friends on iOS, Android, Windows 10 Edition, Gear VR and Nintendo Switch, as well as receive updates such as Update Aquatic, Village & Pillage and upcoming updates.
