To create charcoal in both slots you need to put on a block of wood or boards. The resulting charcoal can be used instead of regular charcoal for cooking and creating a torch.

Gathering resources and preparing for the first night in the game, you may meet animals wandering around locations. In the future, they can be brought to a pre-built farm and raised, but for now it’s enough to kill a couple of animals to get meat. Any meat can be fried in the craft field using coal. You should get a few pieces of pork, beef or chicken, cook and put in inventory. Raw food in the game is poorly developed, and therefore, eating raw meat is not recommended.
